Molly's Family

As Molly prepares for Open School Night at her kindergarten class she draws a picture of her herself and her family--her mommy, her mama Lou, and her puppy, Sam. When one of Molly's classmates sees her drawing he loudly informs her that a family can't have a mommy and a mama. But Molly's family does--her mommy gave birth to her and her mama Lou adopted her--just like they all adopted Sam. Molly is hurt by her classmate's words although she notices that her fellow students have all different sorts of families--one has just himself and his daddy, another has a mommy, a daddy, and two brothers, and so on. Talking with her moms and her kind teacher helps Molly realize that her family is just as real, and just as special, as those of her classmates. Softly colored pencil drawings accompany the text.
